What I did was starting at the electric starter switch remove the two screws holding the push button box and behind that remove the two silver bolts that hold the metal shroud to the engine. Once you did that follow the metal shroud around to the front above the recoil and remove the four black screws holding the two metal shrouds together.

BTW, auger gearboxes between a 924050 and a 924084 are completely different. A 924050 gearbox is aluminum, like most 24" gearboxes starting from 1979 to the mid 90s. You can see it in cranman's pic and oneacer's pic above. In comparison, a 924084's gearbox is a cast iron piece: View attachment 206591.
